South Africa & Germany strengthens collaboration for wind and solar development!

In September 2023, the South African-German Energy Partnership hosted a successful dialogue between German and South African renewable energy industry associations. Following this dialogue, the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) and the German Wind Energy Association (BWE) announced the establishment of a formal cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June 2024. On the other hand, the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) and the German Solar Association (BSW), who had a formal cooperation, re-affirmed their commitment by updating and signing their MoU during Intersolar Europe conference. The MoUs highlight an important milestone in promoting renewable energy solutions in both countries. They are grounded on mutual information sharing and cooperation based on organizational development, technical support and exploration of business opportunities for the respective members.

Further to the signing of the MoUs, a ‘Programme of Action’ is being developed and conceptualized by the respective associations, supported by the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE). This ‘Programme of Action’ is anticipated to be agreed upon in October 2024 thus activating certain activities to go into full implementation.
