South Africa shines at Intersolar Europe 2024!

The South African Delegation, led by the Consul General & the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), with representatives of the German Government and German companies.

The South African-German Energy Partnership hosted a high-level South African delegation led by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) at the Intersolar Europe in Munich from 17-21 June 2024. Intersolar Europe is the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry which attracted around 1,500 exhibitors and 2,010 suppliers to present solar energy products and services as part of The Smarter E Europe.

On 20 June 2024, the South African-German Energy Partnership convene a well-attended and interactive Intersolar Europe side event to showcase investment potentials in South Africa with over 50 participants from renewable energy developers, manufacturers and financiers from various continents. The event provided them an opportunity to engage with the South African Delegation, comprised of the dtic, the South African PV Industry Association, the South African Energy Storage Association, the Industrial Development Corporation and GreenCape with the support of the World Bank IFC and the German Solar Association (BSW).

The main objective of Team South Africa was to showcase investment opportunities in the solar PV and energy storage value chain manufacturing in South Africa at the back of an increasing growth in the solar PV market following recent deregulations of the power market, energy security concerns and the introduction of international CO2 pricing mechanisms in the industrial sector.
